Kashan: The Merchant’s House

The Boroujerdi House in Kashan was completed in 1859 during the Qajar era.   Legend has it that a wealthy merchant- one Seyed Hassan Natanzi - was enamoured of the daughter of another wealthy Kashan merchant and when to see him in HIS great big house to seek permission to woo the daughter.  Of course the outcome was that the father said Seyed had to provide his beloved with a house equivalent to the father’s house!  This Seyed set about doing and 13 years later finished the beautifully restored house we see today, all 3500 square metres of it with umpteen rooms, three courtyards and two pools!

And, of course Seyed did get the girl and they all lived happily ever after.....!
