A 7500 mile journey across Asia along the old Silk Road

A detail on one of the decorative panels on the entrance to the Shah Mosque. You will see this is decorated with a series of separately fired seven colour tiles whereas the walls of the Shiekh Lotf Allah Mosque is decorated with tiny individually applied single colour tiles like a mosaic. Which is why that Mosque took 18 years to build. The Shah was concerned he would not live to see the Shah Mosque completed so he gave the builders the hurry up and they invented the seven colour tiles to enable them to decorate the Shah Mosque much more quickly and happily the Shah did live to see his Mosque completed!!
