The Hippodrome is today a square called Sultan Ahmet Square because it is adjacent to the great Mosque of that name. This is one of the few original structures remaining: an obelisk of Thutmose III brought from the Temple of Karnak in Luxor in 390AD by the roman emperor Theodosius the Great. Not entirely intact it has still survived nearly 3,500 years in astonishingly good condition!
