A 7500 mile journey across Asia along the old Silk Road

Emperor Constanine ordered this Serpent Column to be removed from Temple of Apollo at Delphi and set in the middle of the Hippodrome of his new capital Constantinople. Still called the Serpent Column the top third, including the three serpent heads, were destroyed in 1700. Parts of the heads were eventually recovered and can be seen at the Istanbul Archaeology Museum.
