A 7500 mile journey across Asia along the old Silk Road

Jiaohe was an important site along the Silk Road leading west and from 45 until 640 became Jiao prefecture of the Tang Dynasty and an important outpost of the Chines empire. At the beginning of the ninth century it became a prefecture of the Uyghur Khaganate until that kingdom was conquered by the Kyrgyz in 840.
